Baseball Betting Lines – Phillies Have Tough Nut to Crack in Facing Nats’ Strasburg

There are a lot of managers who like to hold closed-door meetings when their team is in a slump. Ryne Sandberg, the former Hall of Fame second baseman incurring manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, did that kind of thing on Tuesday, as his team was coming off a homestand where it lost seven out of 11 games and sits in last place in the National League East.

Sandberg made some changes, but they didn’t do his team very much good, as they lost 7-0 against the Washington Nationals. On Wednesday night, the Phillies have an opportunity to redeem themselves as they once again meet up with Washington in MLB betting action that is set to begin at 7:05 PM ET at Nationals Park.

The Phillies will send veteran AJ Burnett to the mound, while the Nationals have an ace-level pitcher in Stephen Strasburg toeing the rubber.

In the baseball betting lines that have been posted at Get That Bet on this game, the Nationals are big favorites:

Washington Nationals (Strasburg – R) -200
Philadelphia Phillies (Burnett – R) +170

Over 7 Runs -110
Under 7 Runs -110

The Phillies are hitting just over .200 over their last dozen games, and yes, it really is time to send out a distress signal, especially when you have to go up against a pitcher who has had so much recent success against them. Strasburg is, of course, one of the more overpowering pitchers in the major leagues, and he has been especially dominant against Philadelphia. Don’t believe us? Well, in the last 29 innings he has pitched against the Phillies, he has given up ONE extra-base hit and ONE run. So what are the chances of an offense of explosion on the part of Philadelphia? Many people who analyze the baseball betting lines have already come up with their answer.

Strasburg got off to a slow start this season, but he has settled down and is now 4-4 with a 3.15 ERA. And he has a 1.58 earned run average in his last six starts in the nation’s capital. The Nats got some nice news yesterday as Ryan Zimmerman came back to the lineup after missing 44 games with a broken thumb. He had two doubles, and was playing in left field, which apparently is going to be his position for the time being. Anthony Rendon has been manning the hot corner for Washington (Zimmerman’s usual spot), and yesterday he hit his second home run in three games.

Get That Bet customers who are backed the Phillies of late have certainly not cashed in, as this team has now lost 18 of its last 27 games. It doesn’t seem that long ago, does it, that we were talking about how Philadelphia’s “Big Four” in the starting rotation was going to dominate things in baseball. Two of those guys, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels, are still on the roster, but that hasn’t helped Philadelphia escape the cellar.

Burnett, who was had an up-and-down career, has a 3.79 ERA, but leads the league in walks, as he has issued 37 bases on balls. Interestingly enough, however, he has had a 1.02 ERA in his last six starts against the Washington nationals. That might make this a more interesting encounter than most people anticipate.
