he Gonzaga Bulldogs have to be thinking that they are in must-win territory as they take the floor in the WCC title game, because they are, at best, on the “bubble” when it comes to their viability in the eyes of the committee that selects teams for the NCAA Tournament. To miss the Big Dance would be quite a blow, because they have made it for the last 17 seasons. But without a lot of signature wins outside of their conference, they will be kind of left to the mercy of the committee if they cannot avoid the three-game sweep at the hands of the Gaels.

Gonzaga has won ten straight WCC tournament games, and they have victimized SMC plenty along the way. But this season they lost both at Saint Mary’s’ little gym in Moraga and their home floor in Spokane, and in that last meeting on February 20 they were held to just 35.5% shooting, including just five of 26 from the three-point arc.

Saint Mary’s carries a #23 ranking from the coaches’ poll into this game, and that will probably bode well for them as they make their case with the members of the committee, in the even they lose. But as some BetAnySports NBA basketball betting patrons may be aware, the Gaels have not done very well against high-level opponents, losing to California in their biggest test outside of the conference. But they do lead the nation in two important categories – shooting percentage and assist-to-turnover ratio.

If Gonzaga is going to derive an edge in this game, it is through their ability to work the inside, and as far as bulk goes, you’d have to go a long way to find a combination better than Kyle Wiltjer and Domantas Sabonis (who has great bloodlines, as his father is Arvidas Sabonis, the international legend). In Monday’s 88-84 win over BYU, they had 47 points and 22 rebounds between them. But Wiltjer has had his share of difficulty in the two encounters between these teams, with just 19 points and eight rebounds.

BetAnySports customers should take note that the Bulldogs get out to the perimeter and defend very well, holding opponents to 29% shooting from the arc. Saint Mary’s hasn’t reached 40% from downtown in any of their last five games. Whether the Gaels can find the range could be a real key to winning.

Unders have been the order of the day when these squads have gotten together. They have, in fact, played seven straight times under the posted total. And Saint Mary’s have had 17 unders in 26 charted games this season. At the same time, they have won 168 of their last 185 games when scoring 70 points or more.
