College Basketball Betting Report - Jan. 7

The New Year’s Holiday ushered-in the start of conference play in men’s college basketball as the race for this year’s national championship is officially underway. Kentucky, Duke and Virginia continue to set the pace as the only three majors to remain unbeaten on the year, but there is a solid block of teams just waiting in the wings to take their place at the top of the national rankings should they stumble down the road.

The No. 1 Wildcats came dangerously close to taking a fall in Tuesday’s tight 89-86 victory against Ole Miss in their SEC opener as prohibitive 22.5-point home favorites on 5Dimes’ closing betting odds. The total easily went OVER the closing 129.5-point line after staying UNDER in seven of Kentucky’s previous eight games. It was just the third time it failed to cover in its last 10 outings. Next up for the 14-0 Wildcats is this Saturday’s road game against Texas A&M.

The ACC’s No. 2 Blue Devils made short work of Boston College in their conference opener this past Saturday in an 85-62 romp as 21.5-point favorites at home. This raised their record on the year to 13-0 straight-up and 8-5 against the spread. The total went OVER 5Dimes’ closing 130.5-point line against the Eagles and it has gone OVER in four of their last six games with a posted line.

Duke will be back in action this Wednesday night as a 15.5-point road favorite against Wake Forest. It is 8-1 SU in its last nine games against the Demon Deacons, but just 1-5 ATS in its last six road games in this matchup. The total has gone OVER in five of the last six meetings.

Another of the top teams in the nation also resides in the ACC with the 13-0 Cavaliers holding down the No. 3 spot in the AP’s current Top 25. Virginia opened-up conference play with an 89-80 victory over Miami as a seven-point road favorite this past Saturday to improve to 9-4 ATS this year. The total in this game went OVER the 117.5-point closing line and it has now gone OVER in five of its last six games.

The Cavaliers will also be in action on Wednesday night in a matchup against North Carolina State as 16-point favorites at home. They have a 6-2 SU edge in the last eight meetings, but they are just 3-11 ATS in their last 14 home games against the Wolfpack. While 5Dimes USA Online Sportsbook has yet to release the betting odds for the total in this game, it has stayed UNDER in three of the last five meetings. Top
