One of the truly remarkable stories of this college football season belongs to the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks, a Mid-American Conference team which lost its first six games of the season. But at the moment they are on a six-game winning streak and have qualified for bowl game. That will happen for them on Monday morning as they take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the St. Petersburg bowl, taking place at 11 AM ET at Tropicana Field, which is more familiar as home of the Tampa Bay Rays. ESPN is going to televise this event, and while it is happening, BetAnySports customers who are able to get up that early will be able to avail themselves of real-time wagering through the facilities of Live Betting Ultra. And when they’re done with football, they can seek out Asian casino action with three no-download options.

The turning point for Miami’s season was the return from injury of Gus Ragland, a quarterback who tore his ACL back in April but then came back in the seventh game of the season against Kent State. His yardage figures are not necessarily mind-boggling, as he has averaged about 212 yards per game. But this guy has thrown 15 touchdown passes without an interception, and if you took his quarterback efficiency rating of 167.5, it would be seventh best in the nation; that is, if he had enough attempts to qualify.

So he leads the team that has not only improved through the air but also on the ground. Miami has seen its per-game rushing average rise 67 yards in these last six contests. In four for the last five games, they have top the 200-yard mark.

But BetAnySports patrons know that there is a big difference between the level of competition in the MAC and in the SEC, which is why Mississippi State, even with a 5-7 record (also 5-7 against the points) is favored heavily here. The Bulldogs got a bowl bid for one reason and one reason only – there were not enough teams with winning records or .500 records to fill up the entire bowl schedule. They are determined not to create an embarrassment for themselves. And there is no question that they have faced much stiffer competition; they have scored victories over South Carolina, Texas A&M and Ole Miss (by a 55-20 score in the Egg Bowl), and lost by three points to LSU. On the other side of the coin, they were beaten 51-3 by Alabama, when they ended up with a 341-yard deficit.

The guy you want to look for in the Mississippi State offense is Nick Fitzgerald, who has filled the shoes of Dak Prescott rather nicely. While he is not the most accurate passer in the world (indeed, only 54.5%), he has a nice 21-10 ratio of touchdowns to interceptions, and he is by far this team’s leading ball-carrier, with 1243 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also get support out of running back Aeris Williams (656 yards). So this is a potent offense. What the Bulldogs are going to need to do is to get the job done on defense; they were 111th in the country in total defense, allowing 33 points per game, and opponents clipped them for 4.9 yards per carry. If Ragland’s passing indeed opens up things for Miami’s ground game, there would certainly be an opportunity here. But you may want to look “over” in this one, as MSU has gone that way in five straight games.
