Starting in the American League, the red-hot Kansas City Royals will be in Toronto to kick-off an extended four-game weekend set against the Blue Jays. The Royals have opened-up a full nine-game lead over Minnesota in the Al Central Division race with a 9-4 run since the All-Star break and heading into Wednesday’s series finale against Cleveland they have won their last four games.

The Blue Jays dropped the first game of a quick two-game interleague set against Philadelphia with Tuesday’s 3-2 loss as prohibitive -264 home favorites. There has to be some concern in Toronto with a 2-4 run in its last six games that has knocked it eight games off the pace that New York has set in the AL East. The Royals will go with Dan Duffy as their starter for Thursday night and they are 10-1 in Game 1 of their last 11 series when he is on the mound. Kansas City is also 6-1 in its last seven games against a team from the Al East.

Moving over to the National League, the Pittsburgh Pirates will face a familiar foe in Game 1 of a four-game weekend series when they head to Cincinnati to square-off against the Reds. The Pirates continue to hang tough in the NL Central race with a record of 58-41. They have won four of their last five outings to close the gap with St. Louis to 5.5 games. The total has gone OVER in those four games.
