NBA Basketball Betting — Warriors Would Love to Continue Defensive Prowess Against Wizards

NBA: Washington Wizards at Houston Rockets

The Golden State Warriors finally woke up on the defensive end on Sunday night, and that had to put a smile on coach Mark Jackson’s face. If they can continue such a thing, it will make him even happier. On Tuesday night they will get their chance, as they play host to the Washington Wizards in NBA basketball betting action that is set to get underway at 10:05 PM ET at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.

Washington will be trying to get to the .500 mark in this one and complicate the Eastern Conference playoff picture even more. They are currently 21-22 straight-up and a 21-21-1 against the basketball pointspread. Golden State has a 27-18 record of winning games outright and is 21-23-1 versus the number.

In the NBA basketball betting odds that have been placed on this game at Get That Bet, the Warriors are laying some points:

Golden State Warriors -8.5
Washington Wizards +8.5

Over 205.5 points -110
Under 205.5 points -110

The Warriors had really been slumping on defense, allowing opponents to shoot 50% or better in three games out of a five-game stretch, but they turned on the “Stop” sign on Sunday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, strangling the highest-scoring team in the league by a 103-88 score and holding the Blazers to just 33.7% shooting, winning a laugher at home as a 6.5-point favorite in the NBA lines. It was, according to Jackson, “just what the doctor ordered.”

But the doctor can’t afford to go on vacation. Yes, Washington has struggled a bit in shooting the ball since a three-game winning streak against Chicago (twice) and Miami in which the Wizards shot 52.4%, but you’ve got to recognize that there is a pretty dynamic backcourt combination with Bradley Beal and John Wall. What those guys have to do, as Get That Bet customers know, is be more accurate than they were the last time these teams met, on January 5, when they hit just eight of 26 shots. Meanwhile, the Warriors made almost 51% of their shots in the 112-96 win.

Both of these teams have under-achieved of late as far as the NBA basketball betting odds are concerned. The Wizards have covered just one of their last six games, while the Warriors are just 2-6 against the number over their last eight contests. One thing that should be noted is that Washington is a dangerous three-point shooting team; they have made just a shade under 41% from beyond the arc while on the road. And that is one of the reasons they have won five of their last seven road games straight-up and have chalked up a 14-8 mark against the basketball lines as a visitor.

Even though Golden State was so proficient on defense against Portland, the Warriors were “bricking” a little, as they shot just under 42%. So they will be looking for a boost in that direction. In the category of “odd” NBA betting trends, the Warriors are 6-0 against the pointspread on Tuesdays. So we’ll see.
