NFL Betting at Get That Bet — Falcons Need to Get it Going on the Road

If the Baltimore Ravens can do just half as well as they did on offense in last week’s game, they will probably be satisfied. In fact, if they could do as well as they did in the first half, they’d be ecstatic. They have a big opportunity to take care of business on Sunday as they play host to the Atlanta Falcons, a team that just can’t seem to get out of its own way on the road. The kickoff at M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore is set for 1 PM EDT.

Get That Bet customers have seen Baltimore go from one extreme to another over the last couple of weeks. When they played the Indianapolis Colts, they had a horrific time moving the ball, and were able to convert only one third down. Last week against Tampa Bay they had 475 yards of total offense, including four touchdowns in the very first quarter, led 38-0 at the half, and then took their foot off the gas pedal, jogging home with a 48-17 victory over the hapless Buccaneers. They are now 4-2, both straight-up and against the football pointspread.

The Falcons have lost all three of their road games this season by double-digit margins. Overall, they have dropped ten of their last 11 straight-up when they are the visitor. But last week, they were expected to do much better offensively upon a return to the Georgia Dome against the Chicago Bears, who have had numerous problems with injuries on the defensive side. Alas, all they could manage was twelve first downs, as they held the ball less than 24 minutes. Instead, it was Jay Cutler’s show, as he passed for 381 yards in a 27-13 Chicago victory. That defeat dropped Atlanta to 2-4, both straight-up and against the spread.

In the NFL betting odds posted on this game at Get That Bet (http://www.getthatbet.com), the Ravens are favored by almost a touchdown:

Under 49.5 Points -110

Joe Flacco threw for five touchdowns in the first half last week against Tampa Bay. Those people who are back in Baltimore on Sunday probably can’t hope for a repeat of that, but they can be very encouraged by the way the Ravens have been running the football. It appears as if the very talented Justin Forsett (6.4 ypc) could be the answer they have been looking for in the backfield. He had 111 yards against Tampa Bay, and is on pace to rush for over 1000 for the season. They probably won’t miss Ray Rice after all.

When it comes to the running game of the Falcons, however, NFL bettors don’t really know what they are going to get. Steven Jackson looks like a player who is well past his “sell by” date, and what Get That Bet customers might expect to see in this game is more touches for running back Antoine Smith, who appears to be an explosive element this offense has lacked. He has already caught 10 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns, and has averaged 9.7 yards per carry.

But in his three games on the road, Matt Ryan has thrown six interceptions. And the defense has not done its job, allowing the opposition 8.6 yards per pass an attempt, which is a genuine invite for somebody like Steve Smith, who is averaging 16.4 yards per catch. Torrey Smith (15.1 per reception and, by the way, no relation) is a pretty good complement on the other side.
