NFL Betting at Get That Bet – Jets and Giants Should Show Some Aggression in Snoopy Bowl Showdown

The New York Jets got a little rambunctious last week against the Cincinnati Bengals. They probably had a little incentive to do so, as they had been trounced by the Bengals last season. There is always some incentive when playing against this week’s opponent, whether it’s the pre-season or not, because it’s the New York Giants, and so things should be spirited on Friday night in NFL betting action that is slated to begin at 7:30 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

The Jets have won both of their pre-season games, defeating the Indianapolis Colts and, as mentioned, the Bengals, as they avenged a 49-9 defeat in an embarrassing 2013 game. The Giants have gone 3-0 in the pre-season, but there are still many questions to be answered from the offense. For example, can they even score at this point in the new West Coast scheme?

Coach Tom Coughlin needs to get some answers from quarterback Eli Manning, who has really been struggling during this exhibition slate. Meanwhile, Jets coach Rex Ryan won’t even confirm Geno Smith as a starting quarterback for the regular-season opener, although there is no one it camp who can come to any other logical conclusion.

In the NFL betting odds on this game that have been posted at Get That Bet, the Jets are the favorites:

New York Jets -3 (-105)
New York Giants +3 (-115)

Under 43.5 Points -110

The Giants offense – first team version, that is – has been pitiful. And Manning has to take much of the blame. In last week’s game against the Colts, for example, he completed one of his seven passes. And he only has 49 total passing yards for the entire pre-season. The starters could not get anything going against Indianapolis, and New York was down 26-0 before rallying for 27 points in the final period, behind the good work of backup quarterback Ryan Nassib, who threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

But it’s interesting; NFL bettors have heard nothing from Victor Cruz, who has no receptions at all in the pre-season. Get That Bet customers probably recall that when playing against the Jets in 2010, Cruz took over the game, catching three touchdowns. One of the keys will be to see if he gets more involved in this offense, which seems to be a puzzle for everyone involved. It won’t help that the Giants can’t get contributions right now from Odell Beckham, their first-round draft pick who has been dealing with a hamstring injury all through camp. Coughlin is losing his patience, and says that he will put the starters in for extended duty in next week’s pre-season finale if he doesn’t see a better performance out of them here.

Rex Ryan took a lot of flak last week when he kept his first-team defense in the game and blitzed repeatedly against Cincinnati’s second-team offensive line. Those complaints came from Cincinnati coaches, who wondered why Ryan wasn’t doing that when they had their starters in the game. But NFL bettors know that the Jets have to get some help in the secondary. They have injuries to Dee Milliner and Dexter McDougle, and Kyle Wilson, burned on a play last week, has been having a hard time. Andy Dalton was a perfect eight for eight when he was in the game for the Bengals.

Get That Bet patrons should note that the Jets need a little more discipline, as they were called for seven personal fouls last week. Maybe that will happen; maybe it won’t. Andre Williams, the rookie running back for the Giants, added some fuel to the fire when he said quote “I think the Giants are the REAL New York team.” If you recall, in last year’s “Snoopy Bowl,” Mark Sanchez was inserted into the game by Ryan in an attempt to pull out a fourth-quarter win, but that move backfired as Sanchez separated his shoulder and was out for the year.
