2018 AFC North Betting Preview

The NFL futures odds at BetAnySports for winning the AFC North Division title this season read like a one-team race with the other three contenders battling it out for second place. Not all that long ago, this was one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL to the point where in 2014 three of the four teams qualified for the AFC playoffs.

Pittsburgh has won the last two AFC North titles and the Steelers’ betting odds to win this division again in 2018 are currently set at -250 as the odds-on favorite. Last season, they went 13-3 after posting 11 win in the 2016 NFL regular season. With Ben Roethlisberger still at the helm at quarterback throwing the ball to Antonio Brown and handing it off to Le’Veon Bell, it would be hard to bet against this team winning the division again this year. The Steelers were ranked third in the NFL in passing yards last season while averaging 25.3 points per game. They backed that up with a defense that was seventh in points allowed (19.3).

The team with the next best odds to win the AFC North would be the Baltimore Ravens at +450. The Ravens slipped to 5-11 in 2015 before improving to eight wins the following season ahead of last year’s record of 9-7. They might be able to close that gap even further in 2018 if more than a few breaks go their way, but the Ravens are most likely eying up one of the two wild card playoff spots in the AFC.

The Cincinnati Bengals are third on BetAnySports’ list for the division title futures at +800 after posting two sub-.500 records over the past two years. They went 7-9 last season and it is hard to find any solid reason to believe that they can turn things around in 2018. Marvin Lewis became the head coach in Cincinnati in 2003 and you would have to think that it is time for a change if his team posts a third-straight losing record.

Bringing up the rear is the Cleveland Browns at +1000 betting odds to win the AFC North. This team has not won more than five games in nine of its last 10 seasons. Last season was an all-time low at 0-16. Cleveland has nowhere to go but up, but it will still be extremely hard for the Browns to climb out of the basement in the AFC North after finishing last seven years in a row.
