2018 AFC South Betting Preview

Going through the posted NFL betting odds at BetAnySports for each of the eight division title races in 2018, the AFC South should be one of the best on the board. The Jacksonville Jaguars broke through the pack last season at 10-6 to win the division for the first time since 1999. It was also their first winning season since posting 11 wins in 2007.
Jacksonville’s betting odds to win back-to-back AFC South titles for the first time since that 1999 season have been set at +175 at BetAnySports. The pieces remain in place for another deep run in the postseason after losing to New England in the AFC title game.

When it comes to the Jaguars’ projected win total for the 2018 regular season, the current betting odds favor the OVER on nine wins at -120. The betting odds on the UNDER are set at +100. Blake Bortles is often seen as a liability at quarterback, but with Leonard Fournette running the ball and a defense that was second last season in points allowed (16.8) the road to the AFC South title still goes through Jacksonville.

The Houston Texans have the second-best odds to win the division at +200. Last season’s slide to 4-12 from three-straight nine-win seasons was heavily discounted because of serious injuries to Deshaun Watson at quarterback and to JJ Watt as the team’s best player on defense. If each of these players returns to form while also staying healthy for all 16 games, the Texans should be in position to give the Jaguars a run for the money this time around.

Third on the list at +300 betting odds to win the AFC South is the Tennessee Titans. The Titans have also gone 9-7 the past two seasons and last year they qualified as a wild card team behind Jacksonville. This is another team that has enough talent on both sides of the ball to stay in the division race. However, with Marcus Mariota entering his fourth season as the team’s starting quarterback, he is going to have to find a way to elevate his game to get Tennessee over the hump.

Indianapolis has the longest odds on the board at BetAnySports to win the division at +550 and the Colts could be the most interesting team in this race. Andrew Luck missed the entire 2017 season after injuring his shoulder in 2016. Starting in 2012, he led the Colts to three-straight 11-win seasons and two division titles in his first three seasons as their starting quarterback. If his throwing shoulder is 100 percent, Indy could also find itself in the mix for the 2018 AFC South crown.
