2018 NFC South Betting Preview

BetAnySports has recently updated its NFL futures odds for all eight division races and one of the tightest battles on the betting board could take place in the NFC South. The top three teams on the list have each notched a division title over the past three seasons with the New Orleans Saints coming into this season as the reining champs.

The Saints went 11-5 to wrestle the NFC South title away from the Carolina Panthers in a tiebreaker, while the Atlanta Falcons remained right in the mix at 10-6. All three teams qualified for the playoffs in 2017.

Turning to the betting odds at BetAnySports to win the division in 2018, New Orleans is still at the top of the list at +150 betting odds. Atlanta moved up a spot as a +175 second-favorite and Carolina is expected to take a step backwards at longer +275 odds to win the NFC South. With a 5-11 record in 2017 and a looming league suspension for their starting quarterback, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear to have a lock on the basement in the division at +1200 betting odds to win.

Where Can I Bet The 2018 NFC South NFL Games From My Mobile Device?

New Orleans has the most balanced attack on offense with Drew Brees under center at quarterback complemented by the duo of Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram anchoring the ground game. Ingram will also miss some playing time serving out a league suspension, but that should be a short-term issue. Last season, the Saints were ranked second in the league in total offense and their defense improved to 10th in the NFL in points allowed.

Matt Ryan throwing the ball to Julio Jones has made Atlanta’s passing offense one of the most productive units in the league for the past several seasons. The addition of wide receiver Calvin Ridley in the first round of the draft should make Atlanta even more dangerous after averaging close to 250 yards passing per game last year.

I would have to agree that Carolina does take a step backwards in 2018. Cam Newton still struggles with consistency throwing the ball on an offense that dipped to 28th in the NFL last year in total yards gained. The added pressure on the Panthers’ defense to hold things together will make it touch to keep pace with the top two teams in this division race.

Bet The Over Or The Under?

Even with Jameis Winston at quarterback for Tampa Bay, there are just too many holes to fill to turn things around in 2018. The Buccaneers might be able to flirt with the OVER on their projected win total of 6.5 wins, but that is about as good as it gets.
