NFL Betting at Get That Bet – Rams’ QB May Come Down to Game-Time Decision

The St. Louis Rams are going to do their best to have their starting quarterback (who was actually there backup quarterback) available for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but can this team move the chains with either of their alternatives at the position? That is the question Get That Bet customers are pondering as NFL betting action at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa approaches for the 4:05 PM ET kickoff.

Shawn Hill, the veteran who was pressed into action when starter Sam Bradford went down for the season with a knee injury, suffered what was reported to be a thigh injury in the season opener against Minnesota, where St. Louis crumbled and folded in a 34-6 defeat. Hill completed eight of his 13 passes, and was under constant harassment from Minnesota’s pass rush before leaving the game. Austin Davis had to come in during the second half, and he was sacked four times, in addition to throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The general consensus is that although it is a game-time decision, Davis will be starting against the Buccaneers. There are reports that his shoulder is an issue as well.

St. Louis also has injury problems on defense. Chris Long will miss some timke as he needs ankle surgery, and that significantly reduces the pass rush that could put pressure on Tampa Bay quarterback Josh McCown. In his debut with the Buccaneers, McCown threw more interceptions (two) then he did all of last season when he stepped in for Jay Cutler with the Chicago Bears. All told, he completed 22 of 35 for 183 yards. No, he isn’t going down the field much.

Neither will either of the Rams’ quarterbacks. This is going to come down to who can run the ball better. NFL bettors know that the Rams like to come with a committee of running backs, but they didn’t get much of a chance as the team fell behind early. St. Louis ran the ball only 22 times, and Get That Bet patrons can expect the balance between running and passing to change a bit. The Buccaneers ran it even less – only 17 times – and even though they averaged six yards a carry, one of those was a 54-yard run by fullback Jovorskie Lane. The other running backs (Doug martin, Bobby Rainey) only had 13 carries for 21 yards.

The Rams also have to clean things up from the standpoint of discipline. They were penalized 13 times last Sunday, and they can’t allow themselves that kind of sloppiness. The Bucs lost at Carolina last week (20-14), but that was to a Panther squad that started their backup quarterback (Derek Anderson). Does that mean there is hope for St. Louis? Maybe, but NFL bettors would be well-advised to look for a game in which both teams are playing it close to the vest.
