Game Overview

Neither of these teams have been playing very well lately, with Oakland’s 3-5 record which puts them in the rock bottom of the AFC West and having New York sitting at probably shocking 2-6, both of these teams would more than welcome a win here. If the Raiders have any hopes of reaching the playoff the win here is a must.

The situation is not that bleak for New York as they actually still have a chance of winning their division. Only 2.5 games separate the Dallas Cowboys and the Giants, both of the games being in the loss column and a soon decisive clash between the two teams comes in a few weeks. New York is coming on strong having won the last two games as they look to take down the Raiders before having to face Green Bay Packers who won’t have Aaron Rodgers at their disposition. While the New York defense was one of the worst in the NFL during their losing streak, now it’s the main reason why the team even has a chance of reaching the postseason. In the last two games the Giants defense have kept their focus and strength which resulted in not allowing a touchdown since all the way back in the second quarter of Week Six. Prior to that game, New York would usually give up at least 31 points or more to any team they played.

Although many expected Oakland to be the worst team in the league before the beginning of the season, they have done everything in their power to prove those expectations wrong. Their quarterback Terrelle Pryor, whose record of 1,437 yards thrown gives a somewhat of a more to be desired support for the Raiders offence, is leading the Raiders. Pryor’s biggest problem lies in the number of turnovers that he’s been giving to their opposing teams, tossing nine interceptions vs. five touchdowns. He has run for 485 yards and his completion percentage still hasn’t topped 53.9 in any of the previous three performances. But in all fairness, Pryor does not have much help from the rest of the team and although the team is exceeding their expectations that certainly wasn’t the result of some of the stellar performances by certain individuals. Denarius Moore is playing solid, having 32 receptions and 513 yards while Darren McFadden has still been limited by injuries, accumulating only 352 rushing yards.

In summary, the Giants are more talented team plus they have a home advantage. Those facts combined with their rising form and the Raiders having to travel all across the country, makes it difficult to see Oakland taking this game into their own hands and pulling away with a win. New York is expected to give their best as the win here would bring them in contention to winning their division with them knowing that the Cowboys are facing a difficult challenge in the New Orleans Saints.
