NBA Betting – Spurs Look to Hammer Thunder a Little More in Game 2

On Monday night the San Antonio Spurs grabbed the Oklahoma City Thunder by the throat early and never let go. They took control of the game by dominating the paint and used that to execute their offense in every possible way. Of course Oklahoma City was handicapped, being without its defensive intimidator, and that situation has not changed. So it will be interesting to see how the Thunder handle the situation as they move into Game 2 of this series, which is scheduled to begin at 9 PM ET at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

In the 122-105 victory, the Spurs scored 67 points in the first half, and future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan contributed 21 of those points, as one opportunity after another presented itself near the basket. Coach Scott Brooks has to be scratching his head as very little seems to work, and it must have been particularly frustrating for him, because he has brought a defensive culture to the franchise.

We will see how Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook compensate for the fact that the Thunder simply cannot keep up with the Spurs unless they put a lot of defenders on the floor. Even then, they probably can’t produce enough points to keep up with a team that can get off offensive punch from anywhere.

In the NBA betting odds that have been established on this game by the people at Get That Bet, the Spurs are once again favored:

San Antonio Spurs -6
Oklahoma City Thunder +6

Over 211.5 points -110
Under 211.5 points -110

The Spurs outscored the Thunder 66-32 in the paint. How can that possibly continue? It can’t, unless OKC wants to be exited very early from this series. Playing without Serge Ibaka, it is like an open invitation for the Spurs to come on down the lane. So it is going to be imperative that Kendrick Perkins flex some muscle in the middle.

When they had to go against Ibaka this season, San Antonio shot 49% in the paint. Without the threat of the NBA’s second-leading shot-blocker in the lane, that percentage ballooned to 67%. So it is absolutely clear to NBA bettors that Oklahoma City needs a solution.

Get That Bet customers may not have been expecting that Danny Green was going to be a defensive force for the Spurs, but he indeed was. On 16 shots by opponents when he was the primary defender, the Thunder made just two of those against Green. And oh by the way, Green also hit four triples, which is what he is known more prominently for.

The depth advantage is obviously with San Antonio, and that is because they can present balance in the lineup no matter what combination of players they put on the floor. For the Thunder that is not really the case. maybe that is the fundamental difference as San Antonio continues to demonstrate that losing four straight games to an opponent in the regular season may not mean very much when it comes to the playoffs.
