Football Betting at Get That Bet – Shootout Conditions Could Exist in Bears-Falcons Matchup

There are probably a lot of people in the Get That Bet audience who are expecting nothing less than a shoot out as the Atlanta Falcons play host to the Chicago Bears in football betting action that begins at 4:25 PM ET. They may well be right, based on what the Falcons have been able to do in the friendly confines of the Georgia Dome. And since the Bears have not shown much inclination to defend the opposition, the stage may be set for a high-scoring game late Sunday afternoon.

It is one thing when the Falcons go out on the road; they have lost ten of their last 11 games as the visitor, and they were the victims of some rather strange coaching decisions last Sunday in the Meadowlands against the New York Giants. In the fourth quarter, Mike Smith made the decision to go after a first down on a fourth and one from his team’s own 29 yard line. That decision failed, and the Giants went on to kick a field goal to make it a two-score game, eventually ending in a 30-20 final.

Now this team goes back indoors, where it has run up totals of 1066 yards and 54 first downs in games against the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Matt Ryan has thrown 11 touchdown passes and six interceptions, but none of those picks came at the Georgia Dome.

In the football betting lines that have been posted on this game by the people at Get That Bet (http://www.getthatbet.com), the Falcons are the favorites, and notice the hefty total:

Atlanta Falcons -3 (-125)
Chicago Bears +3 (+105)

Under 55.5 Points -110

This will be the first game, of course, that Devin Hester is playing against his former teammates. Perhaps the NFL’s best all-time kick returner, Hester has taken a punt back for a touchdown this season and made fourteen catches as a wide receiver. His services on offense are going to be needed, because Harry Douglas has been slowed down with a bruised foot and is listed as questionable.

Football bettors who have followed either of these teams this season realize that they do not specialize on defense. Certainly Chicago is the team that is more opportunistic (7 INT’s), as Atlanta has only intercepted two passes and sacked opposing quarterbacks four times, but both have allowed eight yards per passing attempt, which leaves things wide open for two capable quarterbacks, with 23 TD passes between them, who have multiple targets at their disposal. Atlanta has allowed 407 yards per game, and Chicago can’t seem to play 60 minutes of football, faltering badly in the second half in each of the last two contests.

Get That Bet patrons will look for the Bears to try to put pressure on Ryan, but the Atlanta quarterback has been sacked only six times this season. If the Falcons can get more out of the rushing game, that would obviously be a positive, and Stephen Jackson has 238 yards on the ground so far. The Bears have been notoriously bad defending the run, although that is not the only way they can lose; indeed, they lost a two-touchdown lead to a Carolina Panthers team that really didn’t have any running backs left.
